An individual who spiked treats with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males both between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
