2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the full content from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the recent years producing and managing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all excited to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
The President
Experience of the New Leader
Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Title Information and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Face the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."
The game does not have an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can anticipate additional details as production continues.
